Over 20 years ago we set out to create a trade show in the lawn and garden industry that got straight to the point and offered a better way to do business. In the process of creating one of the most effective trade events in the industry, we made family friends and endless connections. Although it has always been important to us to preserve human interaction in our personal and business lives, we didn’t realize just how significant these interactions would be. Indeed, it’s the relationships that has caused NLGS to live for two decades and it is relationships that will cause it to thrive into the future.
And now, 21 years later, we are choosing to tell our story from a different angle. Why? Because after 21 years we’ve taken a bird’s eye view of what our story is and we want to do a better job sharing it. While we certainly are doing a bit of re-inventing (read “doing work that matters”), and that is useful, we are, at our core, the same as we have always been: a personal company with a mission to provide efficient, productive business opportunities.
Our story is one of hard work, taking risks, and relationships. It turns out our story is deeply woven into the stories of all of our clients over the years. We are in the business of generating business. In a world that is quickly moving from the industrial, faster-cheaper-bigger-better model, we’ve maintained our grassroots approach to genuine, authentic, hard work and relationships. The marketplace is now a connection driven marketplace. As Bob always says, “It’s all about who you know.” We want our image to reflect that.
As our image changes, we’re changing a bit too. While we’ll continue to offer the opportunity to attend our 3 day uber productive, refreshingly intimate and surprisingly fun trade event every year, you can also expect more from us. There’s just so much to offer! We’ve decided it’s time to be more intentional in giving back. We want to give back to our clients, our friends, and to the lawn and garden industry. There so many resources to be shared, connections to be made, and ideas to be transmitted. We hope we can be a catalyst for innovative thought and industry growth in the years to come.
Here in our blog we’ll be giving useful tips, trade secrets, and insider resources. In a time when the lawn and garden industry has seen some serious decline, it is that much more important to make your energy spent on relationships count. We are contributing thrust to make sure ours is an industry that is thriving 10 years from now (and we happen to think we have a pretty good tool to help you make that happen). Of course, we’re all competing in some way or another. But if we zoom out a notch or two, we’ll see that this industry needs us all. It needs our input, our products, our connections and our specialties.
As you see our image sharpen, our contribution increase, and our willingness to invest in authentic relationship remain strong, we hope that it helps you consider the value of your connections. In business, you may be one phone call away from a big deal. As humans, it can be a single 40 second conversation that affects our life for the better. We are excited to be a connection point for relationship and industry success in the years to come. Thanks for joining us for the ride.
